LPPA award

We are delighted to say that Benington School have now acheived the 'Leading Parent Partnership Award'. Thank you to Mrs Stevens and all the teachers, governors and parents who helped us work towards this award.

The award was based on 15-18 months of work and is only awarded where there is an on-going commitment to developing and maintaining strong links with parents, so that they particiapate more fully in their child's learning.

More Goodbyes!

We also say goodbye to our headteacher Jenny Stevens and to one of our teaching assistants Stacey Holland this summer. Mrs Stevens has taught for fifteen years at Benington School, first as the Reception Class Teacher and then as Head. We wish her a very happy retirement. Miss Holland has been at Benington for 6 years and we wish her well with her move away from Hertfordshire.

We had a special celebration assembly for Mrs Stevens, with presentations from staff, pupils, governors and the FOBS. The children sang 'Farewell Goodbye' and 'Goodbye Headteacher' after which Mrs Stevens presented the school with a new worship table, for use during our assemblies.

Leavers Service

As well as a final assembly in school, we also had a leavers service in St Peter's Church. The year 5 children read out lovely comments about their friends who were leaving from year 6 (and a few from other years). Bibles were presented to all year 6 children.

Acorn Class Topic ' People who help us'

Acorn Class had some very special visitors this week. As part of their work on 'people who help us', two police officers visited to talk about the work they do. They arrived in a big police van and there was great excitement when they let off the police siren in the playground.

Acorn Class also visited our local Fire Station, where they learnt about the work the Fire Fighters do. They were shown the uniform the firefighters wear (modelled by Miss Howard) and were given the chance to use the water hose.

Remembrance Day

The Children at Benington School have been taking the time to think about those who gave their lives for their country, so they can enjoy the freedom they have today. In order to show their appreciation to those who not only gave their lives, but to anybody who may have fought or contributed to the war effort in any conflicts, from the 1st world war up to the present day, a Remembrance Board was created displaying photos, with information about who they were, their relationship to the pupil and any other interesting information.

On Friday 11th November, some children from Oak Class and Beech Class took part in the Rising Stars Flag Football tournament at Round Diamond School.

Oak Class children applied their learnt skills of the game and worked together tactfully as a team.  It was very close but they scored in the last few minutes and were declared winners of the tournament for the second year running.

Beech Class children tried really hard throughout the tournament and their skill application got better match by match.

The Beech Class participants were: Jude, Harry, Bethany, Georgia, Rhys, Freya, Lucy and Jem

A great effort by all, very well done.

Fund Raising for WWF

Beech Class raised £79.30 to help support WWF in saving the rainforest. They did extra jobs and some brought in their pocket money. I am really proud of their efforts.

Zoolab visit to Beech Class

Beech Class are learning about the rainforest. They had a visit from Zoolab who brought in a millipede, scorpion, giant snail and a cockroach to name but a few.

The children were very brave and either held or touched the creatures, the scorpion stayed in his box though!

We learned that millipedes are born with only 6 legs, but as an adult have 124. We also learned about where the equator is. Back in class the children used atlases to mark the equator and tropics onto a world map.
