The school was inspected on 19 - 20 June and has been rated as ‘Good’.  Staff and governors are very pleased with the result.

The report is very positive, and the Inspector has recognised and acknowledged the ‘warm, friendly atmosphere’ of the school, and that pupils feel ‘safe, secure and valued’.  Tribute is paid to the energy and enthusiasm of the staff and the high expectations of all.  Clear action points have been given so that the school can move forward.  Some may feel that having been previously judged as outstanding, this implies that standards have dropped.

However, what has to be considered is that since the last inspection in 2008, the inspection process has changed several times, the last being April this year, and it is now much harder for a school to achieve an outstanding rating.  Indeed, if likened to a game of football, it is not just the goal posts that have moved, but we are playing on a different pitch in another County!  In fact, since 2009/10 the overall number of schools judged as outstanding has fallen by 23%, while the number judged as good has risen by 21%.  In Hertfordshire, only eight primary school were judged as outstanding in 2013, compared to 28 in 2009.  So far, in 2014, only two primary schools have received an ‘Outstanding’.
