Return to Curriculum

We follow the new National Curriculum units and we supplement this with planning from the Rising Stars scheme of work. Science in Early Years and at Key Stage 1 has a significant focus on the natural world and seasonal changes. At Key Stage 2 it becomes more theoretical and, by year 6, also includes the study of work by famous scientists. At all stages, science will allow children to plan and carry out their own investigations. We plan a discrete unit of science each half term, which we try to link to our Creative Curriculum unit wherever possible. Science is taught as a discrete lesson from Year 1 upwards and children have science lessons each week. Science is planned, taught and evaluated by class teachers, although we regularly invite visiting specialists to support what is delivered in class by teachers.
